Practitioners of tea ceremony hold Raku ware in high prestige. The name often refers to works resembling the great Raku masters, and now is even used to refer to a style of low fired pottery that use reduction as a source for the finish of the piece.
This is a wonderful Raku “style” tea bowl that combines traditional Aka Raku (red Raku) glaze with unique okra colored finish. The style of this bowl is call Tsu Tsu, and is appropriate for wintertime. The shape, as well as the porosity of the clay, enables this bowl to keep the tea hot without the bowl being too hot to hold in the hand.
