Chawan

Tea bowls come in many sizes, shapes and styles. Traditional tea bowl are characterized by the area, or kiln, that they come from. Tea bowls are the heart of the tea ceremony, and the selection of one to fit the mood and occasion of a particular tea gathering is key.
I always try to imagine the bowl with the bottom filled with green matcha to get an idea of how the bowl will look when the guest first receives it.
The chawan listed here are all new unless they specifically say "vintage", "used" or "old". Quite often, age can add a lot of character to a tea bowl. Many of these bowls are one-of-a-kind, and are limited to prior sale.
We have a few more chawan that are not yet listed on this page. Call Eric if you want to find out about them.
