Fukusa

Fukusa

A Fukusa is a cloth used by the host at a tea ceremony to wipe, and sometimes wrap, certain tea utensils. It is an integral part of the host's regalia, and is always carried when in the process of preparing tea.

All of our Fukusa are silk, although other suppliers may carry synthetics. There are several numbering systems that specify the thickness and quality of the fabric. We will always use the 6-9 scale, where 6 is the thinnest and 9 the heftiest fabric. We carry number 7 for everyday Fukusa, and offer number 9 for those who want a more substantial cloth.
