Futa-Oki

Futa-Oki
Futa-Oki literally means "lid-rest." During the tea ceremony, the lid of the hot water container is mostly kept there. When not holding the hot water lid, the hishaku (water ladle) is often rested on the Futa-oki. A bamboo Futa-oki is appropriate when making thin tea, and not using a Tana (wooden stand). Other times call for other materials, such as ceramic or metal.
