CHW-520: This Shino ware chawan was produced in Japan during the 20th century and is signed “Toutou” (陶陶). The thick feldspathic white glaze, iron brushwork, and natural pinholing are characteristic of Mino Shino, one of the most highly regarded glaze traditions in Japanese tea ceramics. The bowl comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) inscribed 志野茶碗 (Shino chawan).
Shino ware is prized in tea practice for its warm surface, soft light reflection, and seasonal feel. This example features subtle iron decoration beneath the glaze with natural crawling and pinholes from the kiln, creating a surface that is both rustic and refined.
