Sensu

Fans (Sensu) for the Tea Ceremony are different than most other Japanese fans. They are smaller and lighter; they are never opened in the tea-room (well, hardly ever). The sense represents the boundary of your space; thus, when greeting another person in the tea-room, each person puts the fan in front of them.
Women's sense are typically shorter then men's: 6.0-inches long for women; 7.1-inches long for men.
