Description
This substantial tea bowl is attributed to the modern Shino/Mino tradition of Gifu Prefecture. A thick cream-to-white glaze softens the deep cylindrical form, with fine crazing, scattered pinholes, iron-toned specks and warm blushes created in firing. The interior is more varied, moving from pale cream into tan pooling/reflection.
The broad exposed foot shows coarse granular clay and concentric trimming. An impressed mark is present on the underside, but it has not been reliably identified; Tea Dogu therefore does not assign the bowl to a named potter or kiln.
For Tea Use
The bowl has a comfortable, grounded presence and a generous interior. Its pale interior provides a strong visual contrast with matcha, while the irregular lip and tactile glaze retain the informal character valued in tea ceramics.
Condition
Very good condition. No cracks, chips, repairs or structural damage are apparent. Crazing, pinholing, glaze variation and firing marks are treated as characteristics of manufacture rather than later damage.
Tea Dogu Attribution Note
Classification as modern Shino/Mino tradition is based on the object’s form, feldspathic-looking pale glaze, surface texture, firing color and foot treatment. The impressed underside mark remains unidentified, so no named-maker attribution is claimed.
